  • George Lakoff: A Brief Guide to the Debates October 2, 2008
In the first debate, Obama did what he needed to do: convince a majority that he has what it takes. But there is room for improvement... The reason the list is short is that Obama did so well. Biden doesn't have to prove himself in this debate. Palin does have to prove herself. That means Biden can hold back, give short but powerful responses, and

Congress has balked at the Bush administration's proposed $700 billion bailout of Wall Street. Under this plan, the Treasury would have bought the "troubled assets" of financial institutions in an attempt to avoid economic meltdown. This bailout was a terrible idea. Here's why.

    I can’t wait

Filed under: Personal, throwaway posts; Tagged as:

In just under a month, we’ll be closing the deal on our house and ship off from Massachusetts to New Mexico. A lot of people ask when they hear about the imminent relocation how I feel about the move. And the honest answer is that I’m very excited. Reasons for this excitement include (but are not limited to):

    1. Better weather
    2. Fewer allergies
    3. Great food
    4. Lower cost of living
    5. Cheap health insurance
    6. Working from home
    7. Listening to music while I work from home
    8. Great sunsets
    9. Martha feeling like her life is moving forward
    10. It’s a purple state, so my presence might actually make a difference for Barack

I realize some of those sound redundant or are subsets of others, but they bear mentioning. Like the health insurance one. As a freelancer, I’ll be in charge of securing my own coverage. Here in Massachusetts, the group plan at work costs Free Press nearly $300 a month. In New Mexico, my individual plan will run something like $160. Which is insanely cheap. Anyway, we’re still planning our cross-country route at the end of June, but there’s a 50% chance we’ll wind up heading across Iowa on I-80. Anyone care to offer housing?

  1. 11. Fewer mosquitos

  2. Congratulations guys! Our door’s open, should you find yourself on our stretch of I-80 and don’t mind cats.

Amy & I are currently on a camping tour of the four-corners states and spent a day last week in Santa Fe. We love NM! Can see why it’s drawing so many young creative-class types and purpling so nicely…
