McCain’s latest ad

Check out John McCain’s latest 30-second spot, which is airing in here in New Mexico, other battleground states and on national cable:

They sure are grasping at straws; clearly the McCain camp has no new solutions to present — rather than discuss their own candidate they lob grenades at Obama, and the attack isn’t even particularly on-target. The Illinois senator is plenty vulnerable in a lot of areas, but singling him out for actually being likable is just ridiculous.

The best part is at the end, with the little hopeful musical chime and McCain sporting that far-off, wistful twinkle in his eye. It’s like someone decided to beat Obama’s “hope” meme to death with hackneyed gimmicks. Truly amazing.

  • yeah, obama’s whole candidacy is unfair: he’s only popular because everyone likes him!

between this one and the “don’t hope for change” ads, it’s pretty obvious that mccain’s on the defensive and that hope/change is the defining theme of this election. that means we’ve already won the framing battle. lots of luck campaigning against “hope,” senator — it sure was a winning strategy for hillary clinton.

i also love that i-just-pooped-my-pants look on mccain’s wrinkly, scrotumlike face at the end: as if he’s momentarily lapsed into a little alzheimer’s reverie, dreaming of sock hops and blueberry pies cooling on the windowsill. he’s so adorable! you just want to pinch his cheeks… or you would, anyway, if not for that unfortunate ball-sac texture.

Seems we missed out on “Obama uses wounded vets as campaign props.” ad.
