My first iMovie foray

You’d think being a creative type and all that that I’d've gotten around to playing with iMovie much sooner than this, but… no. Anyway, it’s my firm belief after listening to the Dems keep repeating that McCain is “four more years of Bush” and focusing on the economy that the Obama campaign actually needs to take a page out of Bill Belichick’s playbook and go after his opponent’s strength, not his weaknesses. So I made this 30 second spot to make my point:

Took me most of this morning. Lemme know what you think… but be gentle, it’s my first time.

  • Not bad, but you neglected a few of the time-tested conventions of political advertising:

When talking about the other guy, it should be in black & white, with unflattering still photos and images of newspaper clippings featuring damning headlines. When you switch to talking about our guy, it should change to color, like Dorothy waking up in Oz.

The soundtrack should ideally go from scary/concerned tinkly piano music (McCain) to a hopeful flourish of brass and strings (Obama). (I notice you went with the Kronos theme from Requiem, which definitely conveys scary but not so much concerned.)

Finally, it should end with a tagline about the other guy being “wrong for America” or something, followed by “I’m Ben and I approve this message.”

    Yay iMovie!
