yep.
this sounds about right.
The federal judge who overturned Barack Obama’s offshore drilling moratorium reported owning stock in numerous companies involved in the offshore oil industry — including Transocean, which leased the Deepwater Horizon drilling rig to BP prior to its April 20 explosion in the Gulf of Mexico — according to 2008 financial disclosure reports.

Brilliant. After going nearly a week without paying attention to the news, I guess it’s good to be able to say that I didn’t really miss anything of significance. Nothing really good happened, either, but that was unlikely anyway; the oil leak is still gushing meanwhile. Nothing is going to be done about it. Ho hum.
Earlier today I read of Haley Barbour saying, almost verbatim, the very comments I made up the other week after seeing him spouting on CNN, and making some educated guesses.
Does this mean that he and the GOP take ownership of this clusterfuck now? If another disaster should happen in the near future, which seems far from impossible, they’re going to get all of the blame right? Yeah, I suppose not; given that we already had Sarah Palin leading the crowd in cheers of “drill baby, drill” there really isn’t much further that they could do to get “ownership” of an oil well disaster. They’ve tried, bless ‘em. And, obviously, THAT wasn’t enough to really do the trick so I guess this won’t be either.
Meanwhile, the unabashed eagerness, even insistence, WHILE THE SPILL CONTINUES GUSHING AWAY, to just please for the love of god get the rigs operating again and the oil (and cash) flowing once more without any pause we need it we need it now now now… I suppose that more or less summarizes the status of environmentalism in America these days.
Greeeeeeat.
