Would you like some more of my writing?

While acknowledging my own colossal vanity, this still seems like a reasonable question; stop me when I go astray, here. If you’re reading this, after all, then presumably you’re visiting (or perchance subscribed to) stickybuffalo. Which, unless you’re all masochists, presumably indicates that you enjoy visiting stickybuffalo. Which, given that there hasn’t been much here other than my writing for like a year now, presumably means you enjoy my writing.

So here’s an offer. I’ve spent the past months working on a printed booklet project, which will feature my writing, as well as the poetry of a talented collaborator and one-time fellow honors student, plus a bit of photography from both of us. (Hers is really spectacular, believe me.) Almost none of this content, at any rate my share of it, has been or will be published at SB or anywhere else on teh intarweb.

But I will send you a copy, free, if you are interested. Just let me know your address. (I assume that anyone reading this is either a site member, and/or knows how to contact me by other means).

Thanks.

Stickybuffalo. Established 2001.

I don’t know what day, exactly, stickybuffalo was “born.” I remember having lunch with the blog’s founder at Rock Bottom Brewery, in West Des Moines, while he explained the origins of this curious domain name he’d acquired and his plans to launch a blog. But I wasn’t an active participant, then, so I don’t recall a specific “launch date.”

I’ve got an e-mail dated February 14, 2001, announcing the blog (and it’s amusing to count the number of recipients in the en clair list of addressees still using @iastate.edu accounts at that point). But maybe the blog was up and running a little while before then; I don’t know. In any event, I think we’ve reached the point of being, as they say, “close enough for government work.”

So, happy tenth birthday, stickybuffalo:

stickybuffalo-themed parody of the notorious Sarah Palin "crosshairs" map (like you really couldn't figure that out)

At this point, I’ll turn things over to any lurking oldtimers who may wish to make a few remarks.

The Sticky is down… wait, it’s back… wait…

What’s behind recent stickybuffalo.com outages?

  1. DOS attacks by a conspiracy of the RNC, FOX news, BP, the Heritage Foundation and Mark Zuckerberg (criticize Facebook, will we?)
  2. Yet another sign of creaking American infrastructure, so inadequately funded and maintained that it can’t even sustain one mostly-text blog in the face of about eight hits per week
  3. “Electromagnetic radiation from satellite debris” (per the BOFH excuse calendar)
  4. Some mischievous child I have offended, crouched in a switching station and getting a little revenge Amelie-style
  5. That hamster gets tired once in a while, y’know

In any event, fear not. Like the bomber, the blather will get through.
