Or rather, fuck your hypocritical bullshit when it comes to the issue of impaired driving.

Apparently my brother, out on his own and doing well in a productive job that he enjoys, with good opportunities, for what may have been the first time in his adult life, was busted for drunk driving over the weekend.

And so as a result of this, plus previous convictions when he was younger and more stupid and, per my understanding, recent changes to Iowa’s laws which chain him to these past offenses for the rest of his life, society’s rules now deem that his life be ruined.

Since his job involved a lot of driving, that’s gone. Since most of America operates on a personal automobile based transportation infrastructure (which, in combination with most of America’s participation in a culture of gathering for social drinking, seems like a difficult fit with zero-tolerance drunk driving laws, but we’ll come back to those), he’s now reduced to a poor sort of second-class citizenship, at best. He’s also apparently a convicted felon.

Okay, I think this dog of a blog has just about had it. Aside from its own founder jumping ship long ago, and no one else ever bothering to post, this latest site outage of, what, ten days? Uh yeah, okay. Honestly, I’ve already made a joke out of it; at this point it’s no longer even cute.

Whatever. It’s here, for the moment, and I feel like complaining about something, so…

Uncle Paul, I loves ya, but I think you sounded like a bit of a jackass this morning in your post on “America’s Superiority Complex.” Most of this post was, as usual, sound and insightful (though I would say so, after all, given its harmonization with comments I have made once or twice).

But I’m annoyed to see yet another progressive who seemingly ought to know better dropping in this map of passport ownership by state, and then sneering about insular, bumpkin America.

If you want to sneer about insular, bumpkin America, go right ahead, of course. There’s plenty of reason for that. But sneering at low passport ownership?

Dude, what the fuck are people supposed to have a passport for? Presumably to visit other countries, right? Uh yeah, Krugs and others, if you guys like maps, maybe you should check out another one which illustrates the location of North America relative to most other countries? And maybe you would notice that it’s rather fucking isolated by some considerable distance?
